Book Club: Lessons in Chemistry

In semester one, WiHN Otago launched our very first book club! 📚

The first book that was explored was Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus. Over some tea, hot chocolate, and biscuits, we discussed the major themes of ambition, gender roles, and identity. We also watched the first episode of the Apple TV show adaptation of the book, which invoked an interesting discussion!

It was a lovely time for WiHN members to come together, meet like-minded people, and even make new friends, while increasing awareness of the problems women have faced, and face today when pursuing a career in science. We are very excited to host our semester two book club, with our next book being “There’s a Cure For This” by Dr. Emma Espiner!
